Modular Wheelchair Ramps

Public buildings and businesses are now required to have disabled access or risk litigation. Although this turned into an added expense for many places, the increased revenue that they received helped to offset the costs. Many places me the disabled access requirements by installing modular wheelchair ramps.

Modular wheelchair ramps can be installed for both home and business use. They are quite practical and one of the more popular methods to meet disability access requirements. They are not highly expensive to install and make entering and exiting premises easier and safer for those that are wheelchair bound.

Modular wheelchair ramps do have to meet certain requirement to be considered legal and free of possible litigation. Federal standards dictate several height and weight requirements to be considered safe. One such requirement is that they need to be at least 36 inches wide and be able to carry 100 pounds per square foot. This insured that the vast majority of people will be able to get through the ramp and that it will hold them without collapsing.

The slope on Modular wheelchair ramps also has to be adjustable. People in wheelchairs have varying degrees of strength and ability. If the slope is too steep then some may not be able to get up it safely. Being able to adjust the slope will make access easier and safer.

Finally the Modular wheel chair ramps need to be slip resistant. This again adds to the safety of the person in the wheelchair. They may have to use the ramp in all kinds of weather. Having a ramp that is slip resistant will reduce the chances of falls and injuries.

Buildings and business are gradually being required to add disabled access. Many that are not required to do so are installing them anyway. These allow for greater access to the public’s faculties. They also protect businesses and establishments from litigation.
